THE Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has warned farmers and herders in the state against taking laws into their own hands at the slightest provocation.
He said, instead, they should report any trespass or infraction of their rights to authorities.
Buni spoke through his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana while presiding over a routine meeting with the Caretaker Committee Chairmen of the 17 local government areas at Government House, Damaturu on Monday.
He said that the meeting became pertinent to discuss the security situation of the state, especially in rural areas.
“As chief security officers of your respective local governments, it is expected of you to cooperate with the security agencies so as to achieve complete security of lives and property of your people”, he urged them.
The Governor also tasked caretaker committee chairmen to ensure that peaceful coexistence and tranquillity are promoted in their respective areas all the time.
He, however, commended the security agencies in the state for their efforts at ensuring peace, law and order in the state.
“We equally appreciate the efforts of traditional rulers and community leaders in conflict resolution in their respective domains.
The Governor also urged the local government Caretaker Committee Chairmen to intensify prayers and surveillance in their areas to prevent possible attacks by suspected migratory herders.
“May Allah bring sustainable peace in our state and the country as a whole”, he prayed.
