TAhe government of Yobe state has targeted 7,000 children across Geidam and Gulani Local Government Areas (LGA)’s in its renewed immunization drive.
The Yobe state Commissioner of Health, Dr Lawan Gana, announced this at a ceremony to kick-off the 2023 routine immunisation exercise in the state’s capital, Damaturu.
Gana explained that the exercise will require N200 million.
He explained that the funds will cater for logistics, security and other procurement to aid vaccinators reach these remote communities.
About 2.2 million children are currently unvaccinated in Nigeria, with Yobe state accounting for over 25% of that figure.
This, according to the Commissioner, borders on insecurity which has plagued the state.
To this effect, the Yobe state government has organized a meeting to brainstorm and proffer solutions to this problem.
As per the National Library of Medicine, about 22.7 million children around the world cannot access vaccines.
Nigeria, unfortunately, boasts of 3.1 million of that total.
As such, the government has pinpointed two of the most remotest local government areas in the state.
The Yobe state government hope that, through this renewed immigration drive, children aged 1-5 will receive full vaccination.
